Remember the Pet Rock? Here's his 'fat' cousin.
Jay Jacobs has created a viral and unique way to help people who are trying to lose weight.
Jay himself once weighed 380 lbs. He set a goal to lose 200 lbs. and while learning about weight loss and body fat, he ran across anatomically correct models of body fat in one and five pound weights. Thinking it might inspire him to lose weight, he bought a 1 lb. piece of 'fat.' Two things resulted from his purchase that day -- here's what he says:
"One, was the original inspiration for the name "mypetfat", and the other thought was that this was a great visual reminder and motivator to help me stay on track. We always hear about fat, and we imagine it on our bodies, but to have fat next to you at the dinner table is quite another thing. Finally, I had a face to my foe!"
From there, Jay created a really cool program based on the principles of consciousness, choice, and conditioning. The program is reinforced with positive messages to make you 'think' (called Mind Stretches) and the ever present lump of "My Pet Fat."

For those of you who do not currently subscribe to Rhonda's free monthly newsletter, you're missing out on some great stuff -- like the most recent edition's article on One-Page Sales Sheets.
I've always been a big fan of simply designed information sheets that allow customers to get a quick snapshot of information. Why weigh readers down with tons of useless filler text inside a brochure that will never get read?
Sales pro Jeffrey Gitomer insists that you could write the words "up yours" anywhere on a corporate brochure and no one would ever see them, and I tend to agree.

A Direct Line to My Mind
Brain|Blog now has an RSS feed!
One of Blogger's new features is the ability to provide RSS feeds. If you've been sleeping for the past couple months, RSS is the old technology touted as the hot new thing.
The reason I say old tech is because (as I remember it) one of the first internet superstars was a company called PointCast. PointCast allowed you to subscribe to specfic newsfeeds and have the content delivered to your desktop. Although PointCast was the tasty flavor of the day back in the 90's (a million years ago in internet-time), it ended up taking a plunge from which they couldn't recover.
Fast forward a decade, and the rampant spam causes folks to rethink subscriber content as purely elective -- readers don't share an email address, personal information, or anything about themselves. Publishers make their content available for RSS news 'aggragators' (many of which are free) and readers like you and me simply add the feed link to our 'gator' for instantly updated articles and content. No more checking a site 10 times a day to get news updates, or to see if our favorite blog has new content -- the RSS feed brings it directly to our desktop.
Corporate RSS feeds can instantly update employees as to what's happening in the company, or let their sales people know what's in-stock, what's not, and alert them when the delivery truck have pulled up to the loading dock.
Not bad for an idea that's could be considered a senior citizen of the 'new economy.'

That famous number from the 80's: "8-6-7-5-3-0-9" is on the eBay auctioning block!
Always a staple of any radio station's "Friday Night 80's" program, the number has recently been heard on tv commercials (although I don't remember what the ad was hawking.)
Recent changes to cellular telephony laws, namely number portability, has made this transaction possible. The current owner of the number will transfer Jenny's New York area phone number to the winner of the auction. The incredible part? How much the winner will be paying... the current bid is in excess of $80,000.00!
In the song, Tommy TuTone said he had her number on the wall. Given the current price, I'm thinking vault.

I can't even remember how I stumbled across Michael Lalonde's website -- through some third-party portal I assume -- but, man! Am I glad I clicked that link (wherever it was.)
Aside from the pet zombie in the basement, Ornery Boy is filled with stuff that could have been lifted from my own life -- except for the not-liking Survivor (although it WOULD be much cooler if it was more like Lord of the Flies.)

The dead walk the Earth! (again.)
Not long ago I posted about the renewed interest in zombie movies and books (check the archives for the entry of November 21, 2003) and apparently the fascination continues!
My friend Ryan at GoateeStyle.com told me about an incredibly well-done animation series currently available for FREE at Xombified.com. My recommendation? There are three chapters already up and running -- take advantage of this guy's incredible generosity and view them NOW. Some smart studio is gonna snatch this guy up and you'll be shelling out eight-bucks per person to see this flick in a theater near you.
On a related note, within the next month a zombie remake that breaths new life (...er... UN-life?) into George A. Romero's classic sequel to Night of the Living Dead -- DAWN OF THE DEAD will make its debut in theaters. You can view the trailer on line, and looks damn good! It stars the likes of Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer, Jake Weber, and Sarah Polley (not to mention a creepy little dead girl) this movie looks like it might kick 28 Days Later's butt as the best zombie movie in recent years.
...of course, we shouldn't underestimate the soon-to-be-released sequel to Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse. I've been seeing the trailers for this flick and I'm reminded of the zombie-goodness of the first movie.

Animation Based on Escher Print
Snakes, The Movie is a short animated film by Cristobal Vila. It was inspired by an M.C. Escher woodcutting. I've watched the thing a half-dozen times and I'm still enthralled.
Most likely have to buy the music as well...
